The 11th Sarawak Elections 2016 –

Fading hopes for change

The landslide victory for BN in the 11th Sarawak state elections yesterday is a sad reminder of the pathetic state of affairs in the country as a whole and Sarawak in particular. To many of us in peninsular Malaysia it was a great let down, although we expected it due to the unfair way the elections were conducted.

The results appears to indicate that the people have never learned their lessons from GE13 and the huge scandals that involve the ruling party and its top leaders. They don't seem to have learned their lesson of the massive corruption that is going on that is robbing the people and nation of their wealth and rights. They don’t seem to have learned the lessons from the blatant abuse of power and the erosion of the independence of the institutions that are meant to protect their rights. These may be national issues but aren’t they serious enough to be   issues that affects every citizen regardless of which state he belongs.

Is a reflection of the immoral money politics which is being accepted as a norm? Is it a reflection of the bickering and uncompromising attitude of the opposition parties? Or is it a reflection of the general apathy of the people towards politics in general due to being helpless with the massive power use?

Of late is a general feeling of hopelessness among even the most ardent activist to bring political change peacefully. Every peaceful and legitimate move to effect change has been brutally smashed by the powers to be. Right has become wrong and wrong right. Malaysians who wanted change for the nation have been severely discouraged and are beginning to resort to the attitude “I can’t save the country but at least let me save myself and save my loved ones”. Not many have the perseverance nor the courage to fight against a system that doesn’t care a damn for the wellbeing of the nation in their “Cash is King” rule.

The opposition parties’ uncompromising attitude cost them major losses even in their own strongholds. Refusing to adopt a more give and take attitude made them fall victims to the racist and abusive tactics of the mighty BN. Malaysians are beginning to lose hopes in the opposition’s capability seize power and if it does in its ability to unite and rule effectively. The dispute between DAP and PKR to settle the seat allocation in the Sarawak elections has seriously eroded the people’s confidence in Pakatan Harapan as an alternative to BN.

Voters in Sarawak have placed their hopes in their Chief Minister Adenan Satem and his promises for a more autonomous Sarawak. We will have to wait and see whether he will be able to fulfil his promises, otherwise BN will find it hard to retain their grasp over the state as there will be no of the Adenan fever come 14GE.

Meanwhile the losses in Sarawak and the bitter differences between DAP and PKR have sadly brought the nation back to square one but now it is a battle between a much more weakened and fragmented opposition against a greatly power and money boosted BN, which shows no signs of bowing to the humble demands of the people in the near future. With this, the prospects of the next 14GE does not seem promising and Malaysians will be in for a tough times for many more years to come.

Mother's Love - A Runaway Daughter

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

Runaway Daughter Finds A Strange Kindness, Finds Her Way Home

"Mom, you need to give me some space!" she cried out.
She was sick of her mother's nagging. One day, she decided enough and enough and took the extreme step -- she ran away.
With nowhere to go, and no money in her pocket, she met a kind stranger. A stranger who cooked her a meal for free.
A meal that seemed a bit too familiar. How did this stranger know her likes and dislikes? Why was she so kind?
And then the stranger told her about someone even kinder than her.
Someone we often take for granted.Someone who has always been there for us from the moment we were born. Someone who loves us, cares for us, puts her own needs aside, and always thinks of us first. Someone who deserves a little more kindness and consideration than what she usually gets.
The following video is a reminder of a mother’s love for her child that cannot be matched by any other. It is touching and inspiring.

There is no greater love that that of a mother. However bad you are and however badly you hurt her,she is the one and only person who will forget and forgive everything and continue to sacrifice for you and for your return.

There is never a feeling of revenge in her heart for her children.Till her last breath she will go all out to serve you as she did from the time she gave birth to you,fed you and shed tears when you cried in pain.

She is the first face of God in our lives. She brought you into the world enduring so much pain, don't let her leave the world with such pain too.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all mothers wherever they are and in whatever state they may be in.

Mother’s Day 2016

Giving mothers a place in our hearts

Recently I went to visit an elderly man in old folks home. As I reached the gates of the home an elderly woman in her mid-seventies came rushing to me and asked, “Have you seen my son? He left me here a   promising to come back after a few days but he has not come for the last few weeks. I am very worried for him”. The old woman looked visibly upset and was crying that something bad has happened to her only son.

The elderly woman was staying in a low-cost flat with her son, his wife and three children. As the children were growing up there was limited space for all in the small flat. Her daughter in law used to have frequent arguments with the husband over that and wanted the older woman to move out elsewhere. The son finally decided to send her to the old folk’s home but he could not financially support her in the home. One day he took her to home and left her there saying he need to renovate the house and would come back in a few days to take her back. Days and weeks passed but he did not go back as he had no money to pay the home management

So the old mother stood by the gate of the old folk’s home waiting for his son, rushing forward to inquire about his whereabouts from whoever new who comes there. It was a pitiful state watching the desperate old woman yearning for her son.Fortunately after a few months I was told that her daughter from a other state came and took her home.

This old woman is not an exceptional case as there are many other such elderly mothers in the various old folk’s homes yearning for their children. They have been sent there for various reasons. Days, weeks, months and at times even years pass by but there is no sight of their children. Some of them even die while in waiting.

This Mother’s day may be the time to reflect on our own attitude towards our own mothers. They did not abandon us because they were too poor to support us. They did not send us to orphanages because they did not have enough food or there was no shelter to share with us. In fact our mothers gave up the little they had for our good.
Mother’s day is not just about feasts, gifts or elaborate celebrations but more about giving our mothers a place in our hearts where she will feel safe, secure and loved. It is a day to remind and reassure our mothers by not just saying, “mom I love you”, but show her that we really mean that.

There are some things in life we cannot afford to procrastinate and showing love to our mother is one such thing, a little delay may be too late to regret.

Happy Mother’s day
