Malaysia Day 2019

East & West - Unite to fight racial and religious extremism

The formation of the Federation of Malaysia was first announced on 16 September 1963, as Malaysia Day.It was the day that Sabah and Sarawak joined the then Malaya to form a new nation called Malaysia. From that day,we citizens were called Malaysians. Regardless of origin, colour, race or creed,we were proud to say we are Malaysians wherever we went in the world. It gave great joy and hope that together we will become a world power in our way one day in the not so distant future.

After 56 years there is nothing much to feel joyful to celebrate as we always did. The situation is far from satisfactory and our hope for a developed nation seems very remote. The euphoria and hopes created by the change in government 18 ago months has almost evaporated is and being replaced by gloom and despair.

In Semanjung Malaysia, the race and religious tensions among the people of different race and creed is at all time high, with every trivial issue being intentionally manipulated into major dispute among the various races. The latest being the campaign to boycott non-Muslim products is really uncalled for strain on the delicate unity that exists today.

The PH government and its leaders seem unable and unwilling to stop these ethnic and religious provocations by certain quarters.Instead of taking firm action to stop these racial and religious provocations, they watch as the various political groups continue to use these racial sentiments sentiments for their own gain to hold on to power.

After more than 6 decades of living together we as Malaysians, on the ground have fairly well adapted to our differences and have learnt to embrace mutual respect and tolerance to these differences. As a result there was peace, unity and above all a sense of brotherhood and comradeship among us.

This is what our elected leaders cannot bear to see. Our unity which is our strength but for them is their weakness to attain political power. They incite hate to divide us so that they can remain in power forever, forgetting democracy is all about changing power when deemed necessary by the people.

As a result these evil politics today we have a country where corruption by the rich and powerful is a way of life that we are forced to accept. The rule of law, and every facet of government serves the political masters more than the rakyat whom they pledged to serve.Race, religion, and politics now rules our miserable lives and our peace and wellbeing are threatened for no fault of ours.

As ordinary citizens of all races including the Malays, we are struggling and toiling to make ends meet but our elected leaders are busy trying to out-do each other in pursuit of political power, position and wealth at  our expenses.Sad to say the biggest and most powerful weapon at their disposal is race and religion which they utilize to the maximum. And more sad is that our own people who are so simple fall prey to their evil and sinful political play.

Having travelled and worked in Sabah and Sarawak, many of us are aware that the inter-racIal and inter-religious relations among the people there is far better than here in semanjung. It is time for our fellow citizen friends from Sabah and Sarawak to realise the need and wisdom to come to our rescue by helping to dilute the toxic race and religious politics here.

It is not enough to be contended with Sabah for Sabahans and Sarawak for Sarawakians but to assert that Malaysia is for all Malaysians; Malays,Chinese,Indians,Kadazans,Ibans
all other indigenous groups. That was the guiding spirit when Malaysia was born in 1963 and that spirit should continue to live on.

After 56 years we seem to be losing steam and stamina as our hopes for joining the ranks of the world's leading nations is slowly but surely fading. Our dreams will remain as just dreams if we don’t act now.Let's from both West and East Malaysia unite, put aside racial and religious differences and rebuild Malaysia once again.

Selamat menyambut Hari Malaysia, Hari Nasional kita
