Today (17 January 2016) is MGR’s 99th birthday. He was not just an actor but was also director, producer, and politician who also served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu successively for three terms till his death in 1987. His life was an amazing one- a movie idol turned a charismatic politician and then a successful Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu

MGR was a cultural icon in Tamil Nadu and continues to be so
till today. He is regarded as one of the greatest and most influential actors
the Tamil film industry ever produced.
His successful life from
impoverished origins in Kandy,Sri Lanka to the highly exalted post of Chief
Minister of Tamil Nadu, remains an inspiration for millions of poor in Tamil
Nadu, India.He played an important role influencing the people especially the poor with the virtues and good values he portrayed in his films. He may have died 29 years ago but his influence can still be felt in the hearts of millions not just in Tamil Nadu but throughout the world, including Malaysia.
