GE13 - Disheartening but let's move on peafully & united as anak Malaysia

The much awaited GE13 has come and gone but there was no change. However it was historic as being the most hotly contested elections with the largest voter turnout of over 80% and unfortunately the it was also the dirtiest ever. The people went out in droves to vote, hoping that they could change the country for good. Their hopes and aspirations vanished overnight on the fateful May 5, 2013.There was so much disappointment and sadness on seeing the results of that the election.Many call it Black 505,marking it as the day when democracy died.

Yes, the elections are over but it is the same old regime and same old tricks of which the people are all tired continue after the election. Corruption, arrogance of power and racist intimidation continue unabated despite the ruling party winning only a minority of its share of the votes. Even when the majority of the voters wanted to bring about change peacefully at the ballot box, they were hindered and stopped by alleged fraudulent means. 

Now instead of moving forwards we are being taken backwards to same old days of racism and suppression of freedom and human rights. The Chinese are criticized for not voting for the ruling party and threatened to boycott their businesses. Those not happy with the elections results are asked to emigrate>if that is so 52% of the people must leave the country, including possibly over three quarters of the taxpayers. Even a 24yr old student is arrested a for allegedly wanting to bring down the mighty government whose legitimacy is under question. So despite the majority having voted for change, nothing has changed and the struggle for change and the fight against injustice go  on.

Those in the helm of power seem to FEAR everyone and everything that is RIGHT. They fail to understand that this unfounded fear if not addressed will soon be the cause of their downfall. The best outcome of the GE13 is the unprecedented unity among the people of various races, especially the young that was evident in the massive crowds that turned up at the Black505 rallies all over the country. This is very encouraging and with our continued support, racism may soon see its exit from the lives of Malaysians.  

It is indeed very disheartening and depressing to be denied the victory earned by hard work and tremendous sacrifice but let's not give up but move on with hope in peace and unity among the people which is being put to the test.

Let us all be patient and continue with our fight against racism, the last available weapon to the ruling elite and keep up the pressure peacefully and watch their downfall that will their doing and which will not be too far away. It’s now a battle between the racism of the ruling elite and racial unity of the ordinary rakyat in which history has shown that the battle will always be won by the people

.

In this struggle for change it may be worthwhile to remember the encouraging words of our young student, Adam Adli, who is currently under police remand, “Be strong, keep up the fight, this is only the beginning”. At 24,he may be much younger than many of us but his brave words to the people on being arrested should inspire the people in their struggle for freedom.

About 50,000 people turn up for the Hipunan Black505 in Seremban tonight.
Mainly younger crowd shouting "kami Anak Malaysia".

It was encouraging to see speaker after speaker,from young to veteran, denounced racism and urged the multi-racial crowd to reject the racial politics of Umno-BN.
 
DSAI repeated his condemnation in the strongest words.Encouraged by the unity of the multi-racial crowd of youngsters,he said this is the beginning of a New Malaysia where all races have come together to reject racism and demand for their rights and defend their dignity.

It is more than a week after the GE13 and still the dust has yet to settle as there are many who are unhappy with the results. The ruling BN as well as the Opposition PR are equally disappointed with the outcome. The former is unhappy as it did worse than before and the latter despite its gains claims it has won and its victory denied by fraudulent means by a heavily biased EC.

Fortunately the elections went on peacefully with no major untoward incidents reported. Pakatan has refused to accept the results of the EC and has wowed to take the fight for justice to the people in a series of rallies all over the country. It wants the EC to seriously address the alleged fraud in the elections. Despite the numerous calls and 3 mammoth rallies demanding action from the EC, it has yet to respond officially to these allegations, which make the people increasingly more suspicious and angry.

On the other hand the BN has reacted rather strangely by turning the election results into a racial issue, its leaders  calling it a Chinese tsunami and showing their displeasure with the Chinese voters by asking , “What else do the Chinese   want?” These are not only unwarranted but dangerous moves by the BN in a multi-racial country. Is it wrong for minority groups to defend their rights as provided for in the constitution? Don’t they have the freedom to vote for whom they like?

The PR has decided to compile and file the evidence to show its allegations of fraud with the EC. Meanwhile it has gone on a road show to explain its actions to the people. Opinion is divided on these public rallies, which have all been well attended in thousands by the people.

 

Whether these rallies are going to last and whether they will achieve their aims is left to be seen but one thing is sure it has united the people of all races especially the youth. It was heartening to see thousands of them Malays, Chinese, Indians and others taking great pains to flock to these heavily jammed rally venues, sitting together on the wet roads and soggy fields to listen to the opposition leaders. It was heartening to see these young men and women shouting at the top of their voices, “Kami anak Malaysia” repeatedly as though that phrase was their national theme. They seem to have forgotten their ethnic differences as all they remembered is they are Malaysians and were there for a common aim – to demand that justice be done to their votes.

The youths gathered at these rallies have sent a clear message to our leaders to stop all racist means to divide them. They seem to say they are all here to stay for good and bad. I sincerely hope our leaders will see the wisdom of not raising racist issues over and over again. Let racism and the evils related to it die with us so that our children can move on as Malaysians.

As I watched that touching scene of our youth waving their flags and shouting their unity slogan, I for a while forgot I was really in Malaysia, where such soothing and reassuring words and scenes were not heard seen for the last 30 years. Now I am convinced that my children have no better place to go than Malaysia, our beloved land

  

Mother's day 2013 - An inspiring true story

 

The man who sacrificed the love of his life for his mother

On this Mother’s day I like to share true story of a gentleman whom I came across recently in an old folk’s home.

Mr.Tan is a 57year old gentleman who hails from Kedah and now residing in an old folk’s home in Penang. His father died when he was 3 years old and since then he was brought up by his single mother under very difficult conditions. She had to slog day and night to support him and his 6 other siblings.

When he was in his twenties he fell in love with a girl from a different race and religion and wanted to marry her. His mother, being a traditionalist, did not approve of their marriage despite all his pleas and justifications. Finally knowing that his mother would be heart-broken and he did want to hurt her after all she had done for him, he decided not to get married yet, but wait until her mother approved or she was not around anymore. He waited and years passed but his mother did not change her mind. She lived to a ripe old age of 94 years.By the time she died he was already in his fifties and himself inflicted with the complications of diabetes which led to both his legs being amputated one after the other.

He lost both his lower limbs when he was in his late forties when his mother was still alive. As she herself was too old to look after him she sent him to the old folk’s home where is staying since then. When the mother was still alive she would visit him often and when she became too old she would persuade her other children to visit him. After her death some years back, his siblings stopped visiting him and now he is all alone in the home. The only visitors he has are the occasional kind-hearted people who come visiting to give food and spend some time listening to his story.

Talking to him one would realize that he does not bear any grudge or anger with his late mother and his siblings for the state he is in now. It does not curse and swear that God had forsaken him. Instead he seems to have accepted his fate and looks contented waiting to be reunited with his mother whom loved so much to even sacrifice his life in order not to hurt her. That was the gratitude he had for his late mother which he treasures even till today.

He now at  a relatively young age, he sits in an old folk’s home, lonely and handicapped without both legs. Even his own siblings, who are doing well in life, have deserted him. He is now hoping for people like you and I to be generous enough to spare a little of our precious time for him, to overcome the fear of loneliness and hopelessness. The big question for you and I now is to ask ourselves whether we have the time for him.

This story is about a man to went to the extreme to show the love for his mother. He sacrificed his life just not to hurt her, after all she had done for him. It may appear rather stupid that the he could go to that extent but in his eyes it was the right thing to do and he has no regrets at what he did.

We all say we love our mother but to what extent are we willing to go to demonstrate that love? Let’s take a lesson from Mr. Tan on this Mother’s day.

The 13GE – A defining moment for the nation

Final thoughts before voting

The 13GE is being called the Mother of all elections as it is the first elections where there is a strong possibility of government change in the history of the nation. As voters in our hands lies the great responsibility to the 27million Malaysians to choose the right future for all, regardless of race, creed and political affiliation.

As we may our way to the polling stations on May 5,we must recall the situation in the country ruled by BN. After 50years of uninterrupted rule, we have a situation where there is rampant corruption on unimaginable mega-scale, blatant disregard for the rule of law with abuse of power and high ethnic and religious polarization that threatens the very fabric of our nation.

We have a PM who is entangled in major financial and criminal scandals that has yet to be resolved. The names, Scorpene  and Altantunya have become household names in the country. With these scandals looming over him he is impotent to handle the many complex socio-economic and ethnic relation problems that need  bold and firm decisions and action.

We have a deputy PM who considers himself Malay first, only then a Malaysian. He is not only incapable but resorts to racist means to stay in power. There is nobody else capable and credible in the BN line-up who can rise up to take the place of the PM and his deputy 

Then we have an outside force which exerts greater power than both the PM and his deputy. This force is so powerful that it overrules them both in major decisions on national issues. It is controlled by a former PM and his henchmen in Perkasa. They openly try to create conflict between the races so as to hold on to power. They bring back racists policies of the past to influence the voters of today.

In short we have an incompetent and indecisive PM and his deputy and a dangerous and obsolete former PM and his extremist team. As voters representing the 28 million citizens people should we allow these political opportunists to continue managing the country?

On the other hand for the first time we have a formidable multiracial opposition coalition, led by a time-tested and resilient Opposition leader, that appears capable of forming an alternate government and rid the nation of the corruption, provide better governance, free education for all, dismantle the race based policies, bring down the cost of living and improve the quality of life by their well-planned long-term plans for the people. The coalition may be untested and the parties forming it may be poles apart on certain issues but solidly united in more important ones affecting the people and country.

What can possibly go wrong if we give an opportunity for Opposition to show how it implements its plans for the people? What harm can possibly befall us if we allow the Pakatan to implement their better-conceived plans for the people? In fact it can do no harm, only good.

The choice available to us is to maintain the present regime with all its failures and experiences in all the wrong things or opt for another that may be inexperienced but is very enthusiastic and has many new plans and policies to put right the many ills in the country after 55years of misrule.

This GE13 is a defining moment for the nation. Our choice on May 5, could bring about the dawn of a new era in Malaysian politics or the continuation of the same old racist and corrupt policies. Obviously the only logical choice for us is to bring change and that is what we must vote for on May 5. 

As we step into the voting booth all we have is less than a minute to mark the ballot paper and what we do in that minute will determine the future of our country and our children. So let’s vote wisely, vote for a brighter future.
